Installing Reverse Osmosis Filtration System
Installing a reverse osmosis filtration system usually takes about an hour of your time. If you have ever replaced the pipes underneath your kitchen sink, then the installation of an RO system should be almost as simple.
Although the RO system you purchase will come with it's own instructions for installing and a user manual (which you should read), we have a few tips for helping you get organized so when you install your RO water filter unit, it will likely go much more smoothly.
What you will need and won't be included in your RO system is a drill, oil and Teflon or plumber's tape.
If you are installing an under sink reverse osmosis system, it will have a faucet that needs to be attached to the sink counter. You will need to use your drill to create the opening for this faucet. The oil is used to keep the drill bit cool while you make the openings.
In the RO system, there are various values and tubing that will be connected together. It is at these points where the Teflon or plumber's tape will be used to prevent leaks.
Be sure to shut of the water supply before connecting or disconnecting tubing. Only connect to the cold water line because heat will damage the membrane.
Most RO systems have color coded tubing to help you follow their installation instructions easier.
Because filters will need to be replaced every 12 months, you should position the system under the sink to allow you enough room to easily perform this maintenance.
