What's Wrong With Reverse Osmosis Water Filtering?

Look into the next glass of water you drink that pours out from your kitchen sink. Just because it appears clear doesn't mean it's clean. If you are concerned about the safety and health risk associated with the quality of your drinking water, then one possible solution to your drinking water problem is to filter out impurities with a reverse osmosis system.

RO systems are almost 100% effective in removing all the potentially unhealthy impurities found in contaminated drinking water... But no water filtration system is perfect…

So what's wrong with reverse osmosis water filtering? Reverse osmosis systems have one big disadvantage even its best supporters aren't afraid to disclose... and that is it wastes much of the water that it attempts to purify. Raw water is pressured through a semi-permeable membrane that allows it to pass through, but any contaminants larger than 0.001 microns are prevented. All those contaminants that can't pass through get poured down the drain.

However, even RO critics will see that not all the water in a house needs to be purified... only enough each day required for drinking and cooking. Water for showering or washing doesn't need to be absolutely pure. Looking at the total water usage in the home, a reverse osmosis system doesn't have as great an impact on water wastage as it might appear.

The benefits of drinking contaminant free tap water from your kitchen faucet made possible by any water filtration process, including reverse osmosis, must outweigh the cost of purchasing, installing and maintaining the system. However, you may think of these expenses as necessary to keep the health and safety of your family secure. A reverse osmosis system just may be right for your home.
